Wonderfully staged and you will smartly dialogued, it will have no high challenge from inside the way of life off its extremely unappealing title.” [ 8 ]

Cobb), and you may an effective scuffling actress (Evelyn Keyes) whose sis (Nina Foch) spent some time working during the casino and you will old an excellent corrupt detective (Jim Bannon). While the area observe a common trend, this new characterizations are fresh and activities sufficient to help you overbalance. Dialog try terse and relevant, steering clear of the emotional, phoney contact. Strange camera bases show up now and then so you can escalate attention and you can temporarily stop the attention. Good teamplay of the Robert Rossen, increasing given that movie director-scripter, and you can Milton Holmes, totally new creator and you can associate manufacturer, also aids in making this a flaccid manufacturing.” [ 11 ]

It is generally a matter of enjoying Mr. Powell read his paces stylishly if you’re an enormous shed out of actors and you will performers give him vintage support. Evelyn Keyes performs the favorable nothing woman which brings about this new best in your and Ellen Received is the smooth and you may slinky vixen exactly who becomes him toward jams. Thomas Gomez try fatty due to the fact villain and you may Lee J. Cobb do yet another ready concert tour because an exhausted cops inspector just who eventually shuts your situation.
